Weekly Story- Grandma’s Records

Posted by Mrs. West on October 12, 2008

The story for this week is Grandma’s Records and you can listen to it by clicking the link below. After listening to, and/or following along with the story, have your child give you a summary. Make sure they are including the important details, like setting, main characters, problem, and solution. Students can also practice with the vocabulary words from the eWords Games link, in the left hand column.

*Other things to remember- We will be attending the Young People’s Concert at Bob Carr on Tuesday. Please make sure children wear their “Sunday Best.” No shorts or jeans, if possible. Also, conferences are coming up! If you haven’t scheduled your time yet, please do so quickly. I emailed a sign-up sheet and will be resending it on Monday. I look forward to meeting with all the parents and helping your child to become a successful part of our learning community!

Weekly Story- The Keeping Quilt

Posted by Mrs. West on October 7, 2008

This week the students are studying traditions and culture in families. Each child needs to create a “quilt square” that represents their own family’s background/heritage. This is due back by Friday, but preferably with the rest of their homework folder. I am uploading the audio for this week’s story and there is also vocab practice in eWord Games. Have a great week!

Weekly Story- Radio Rescue/Midnight Ride

Posted by Mrs. West on September 21, 2008

First of all, there are two important things happening on Monday- Class Picture Day & Progress Reports!

Here is the link to this week’s stories. It would be a great idea to have your child bring home their reading book and read along with each story. Afterwards, quiz your child on the story elements: Main characters, setting, story problem, and the solution. Enjoy!

*~*~*~WELCOME TO THIRD GRADE!!~*~*~*

Thank you for visiting our class webpage! As you will find out, I take pride in being able to communicate with all my students and their parents. I am aware that we all have busy schedules and don’t have a chance to read every piece of paper that comes home with the children. I also know that not every piece of paper I send home gets the opportunity to reach your hands! :) So I am embracing technology and implementing this website in order to further improve my communication with you! However, the site is meant to be a two-way street. In all of my posts you have the ability to leave your own comments. Any constructive criticism on how to make this site more user friendly and/or helpful to you is welcome.

Now for the tour~ Across the top of each page you will see a list of pages found on this site. They are Home, Specials, Important Dates, Photos, Class Projects, Wish List and Contact Me. Home is the top page where I can leave updated posts. That’s the page you are looking at now! :) The “official” page 1 is Specials and will list what Special Area class is scheduled that day. Simple! Page 2 is Important Dates. This will include the school calender information, as well as events specific to our classroom. Page 3 is labeled Photos and will contain pictures from activities we do in class. It’s just a fun way for me to share your child’s school experiences with you! Page 4 will be saved for Projects. Here you will find some of the fun things we create class. Go ahead and check out some examples from last year’s students. Page 5 is Wish List. Here I will include all the things that are needed in the classroom. These are items above and beyond the original school supplies, but will greatly aid in the smooth running of our classroom. Lastly, page 6 is my information, including how to contact me. Down the left and right sides is what’s called the “Sidebar.” The sidebar contains other useful links; calender, archive of previous posts, and a blogroll. The blogroll is a list of internet links that I thought would be helpful to you and your children. Go ahead and take a look around. Let me know if you have any questions and check back often for updates!!

I hope that everyone had a fabulous summer break and I can’t wait to meet all of you. If you are wondering about me, here’s a little information. This is my fourth year teaching 3rd grade, so you can tell it is my favorite grade! It is a very important year for children and they have a lot to learn in 10 short months. I love being a part of that and seeing the tremendous growth of each and every one of my students. I have been married for 8 years to a great man, Kyle, and have two young daughters, Madison and Genavieve. I also have a kitty named Nikki and a Mini-Schnauzer named Jimmy. You will hear all about them! :) I love going to the beach, going to movies, and spending time with my family. I moved to Orlando a three years ago from Grand Rapids, Michigan. It has been fun getting to know the area and I love it here! If there is anything else you want to know, come by on Meet Your Teacher Night and just ask! :)

p.s. I would love for anyone who visits the site to leave me a comment, so that I know you were here.  Thanks!!
